Early Life and Career Information

Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson was born on July 27, 1992, in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, to Sonstar Peterson and Luella Peterson. Peterson began rapping in his childhood.

However, Daystar experienced a rather troubled childhood after his mother died. At the age of 15, he was already on his own.

Daystar quit school in the tenth grade, at the age of 16, so he could focus on rapping. He garnered local fame performing at outdoor concerts.

In 2009, Daystar, who had since adopted the stage name Tory Lanez, released the mixtape “T.L 2 T.O.” The mixtape was not exactly a commercial success. However, Lanez’ fortunes changed after a video of him freestyling piqued the interest of rapper Sean Kingston.

Kingston arranged a meeting with Lanez in early 2010. That year, Tory released four mixtapes. He began with “Playing for Keeps” and “Just Landed,” before releasing “One Verse One Hearse” and “Mr. 1 Verse Killah.”

In 2011, Tory Lanez signed with Sean Kingston’s record label, Time is Money Entertainment. The same year, Lanez released the mixtape “Chixtape.”

In 2012, Tory Lanez released the mixtape “Sincerely Tory.” The following year, he released what’s arguably his most successful mixtape to date, My Soul: The 416 Story.

In 2014, Tory Lanez released the mixtape “Lost Cause.” He then took a break from mixtapes to focus on his debut studio album, which was eventually released on August 19, 2016. The album was a tremendous success. It reached #1 on the Billboard Top Rap Albums chart and #4 on the Billboard 200 chart. Two of the album’s most successful hits, “Say It” and “Luv,” were certified triple platinum and double platinum, respectively.

Lanez followed up with his second album, Memories Don’t Die, in 2018. The album topped the Canadian Albums Chart and peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Tory has since released four more studio albums, namely Love Me Now? (2018), Chixtape 5 (2019), Daystar (2020), and Loner (2020).

Tory Lanez’s Net Worth

As of May 1, 2022, Tory Lanez had a net worth of $6 million. Lanez’ earnings are almost entirely attributed to the music industry. In fact, Tory’s net worth could have been higher if it weren’t for his insatiable appetite for costly scandals.

In July 2020, Lanez reportedly shot fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in her foot after a house party turned violent. Lanez was charged with three felony counts in October that year. He was also slapped with a protective order that prohibited him from contacting Megan or coming within 100 feet radius of the rapper. In August 2021, Tory violated the protective order against Megan and had his bail increased from $190,000 to $250,000.

Outside the music industry, Tory Lanez has also tried to establish himself as an astute fashion designer. Lanez is noted for founding the clothing company One Umbrella in 2014. The company was founded under the subsidiary Forever Umbrella. One Umbrella has since expanded to become a record label and management company. Some of the artists currently associated with the label include Mansa, Davo, Mariah the Scientist (Jointly with RCA Records), and VVS Ken.

Famous Quotes by Tory Lanez

I started singing to this one John Legend record; it was called ‘Each Day Gets Better,’ or something like that. I started to realize, ‘Wow, I really sound like this dude. If I keep doing this, maybe I can sound dope like John Legend and still rap.’

It’s not the fact that your single can sell. It’s the fact that you can sell hard tickets. People will spend money to see you.

My goals are set differently. I want to be the biggest artist in the world. I will be the biggest artist in the world.

If you try to be better every day, more miracles happen in your life.

I think people have to look at it from a certain view. I say things because, at the end of the day, I can say whatever I want.
